Flash cards are great way to activate terminology. They offer repetition and promote the sort of quick fire response you will need when interpreting, particularly in simultaneous. Now that flashcards are digital they offer other useful learning features and the possibility to have an almost infinite number of sets of cards with you at any one time.
If you’ve never come across Flashcards before have a look at Quizlet or any similar site. Some glossary management software for interpreters, like Interpreters’ Help included flashcards as an integrated part of their system.
Flash cards can be done in several directions to activate terminology and concepts
L1 to L2
or vice versa
definition/paraphrase to L1
or vice versa
Make the exercise more realistic by trying to use whatever terms are on your flashcards in collocation and not just alone!
